The Orrery – OUT NOW!

In 1765 the artist Joseph Wright embarked upon a painting depicting a group of people gathered around a working model of the Solar System known as an Orrery, a scene illuminated only by a lamp placed where the Sun would be. Who were the people in this curious painting and why was it painted?

Based on known facts, this is a story about how Wright, with the aid of two children, a fairground side-show and some 18th century space travel, might have produced the work that would establish his reputation and become an iconic image of what we now call the Age of Enlightenment.

Markosia Spotlight On: Bloodshot World

Each week we’ll be turning the spotlight on one of the many quality books from our extensive back catalogue.

This week it’s the turn of Bloodshot World.

“Is the brightness of the world emerging from behind the darkness, and therefore foundational, or is it layered over the darkness, and therefore cosmetic? The stories of Jeff P. Jones ask the same question.”
-Kevin Brockmeier, author of The Brief History of the Dead

“What you are reading is where and when you are—everything else falls away like grains of sand through your hand.”
-Colorado Book Review of Bloodshot Stories

The six stories in Bloodshot World, each adapted from its prose original, testify to a flawed world. The past-haunted people in these stories inhabit the engrossing grotesque and the irresistibly strange.

Bloodshot World is more than a graphic story collection. It’s an aesthetic project. The bald eye of life itself is bloodshot, these stories say, and it gazes at us through a lens of loss.

6 all-new graphic stories, each illustrated by a different artist:
