Channel 971’s news cycle barely lets you breathe — one minute, it’s circus acts and muscle men brawling octopus mutants for the cameras. Then the lens swings hard to politics: the old mayor’s murdered, his challenger, Chessington Hope — a scientist with too-bright teeth and a black heart — takes the throne. His public grief is as thin as the air in this city. He tells the world he’ll honour the dead, but leaked footage says otherwise. By the last page, everyone’s running out of places to hide. This chapter promises blood under the fingernails, no heroes, and no apologies.
