Writer & Artist: Bob Moulder

In 1765 the artist Joseph Wright embarked upon a painting depicting a group of people gathered around a working model of the Solar System known as an Orrery, a scene illuminated only by a lamp placed where the Sun would be. Who were the people in this curious painting and why was it painted?

Based on known facts, this is a story about how Wright, with the aid of two children, a fairground side-show and some 18th century space travel, might have produced the work that would establish his reputation and become an iconic image of what we now call the Age of Enlightenment.
