Each week we’ll be turning the spotlight on one of the many quality books from our extensive back catalogue.

This week it’s the turn of Cheery Cak.

When you’re growing up all you want to do is fit in – but life sometimes has other plans.

Cheery Cak is a story about being different in a small town in 1970’s Britain. Sisters Diana and Jackie are grieving the loss of their fanatically religious mother who walked out of their young lives. Diana is struggling to come to terms with her sexuality and suppress her true feelings to avoid the social stigma of being labelled a lesbian. Meanwhile, dyslexic Jackie grapples with anxiety and shame after she is plucked out of mainstream school into what she perceives as the “thick class”.

As the sisters pursue their different solutions they learn there is more than one way of fitting in.
